Ammonium dichromate is a salt consisting of ammonium ions and dichromate ions, a toxic chemical salt used to sensitize organic emulsion. It is more sensitive to light. It is readily ignited and burns to leave a sizable green residue. If ammonium dichromate is heated in a closed container, it may rupture due to the decomposition of the material.
Experiment1 ESTIMATION OF FERROUS IRON (Redox Titrations) Aim: To estimate the amount of Ferrous iron in the whole of the given solution using a standard solution of Potassium Dichromate. Apparatus: 100 ml standard flask, Buret...
· Ammonium chromate is an ionic compound, so the prefix is not used. The ammonium ion has only a 1+ charge and so the Stock system of Roman numerals is not required. Thus, the only correct name would be ammonium chromate.
· Potassium chromate can be substituted by potassium dichromate but it is difficult to obtain too. Ammonium dichromate would be usable too but it seems to be more difficult to keep the pH of the coatings constant. I would not attempt a synthesis in the kitchen. Anyway here is a possible synthesis for potassium dichromate.
· A strong electrolyte dissociates completely into ions in aqueous solution. When ammonium chromate, a strong electrolyte, is put into water the ions .
